2023 Second Harvest Heartland Volunteer Event

WISE Twin Cities was excited to get together to volunteer with our local food distributor Second Harvest Heartland. This organization repurposes food that would otherwise be thrown away and connects it to thousands of agencies, food shelves and programs to feed some of the 400,000+ Minnesotans that suffer from food insecurity. Second Harvest Heartland is one of the nation’s largest food banks and a leader in the emergency food chain.Nearly 40 million pounds of edible but unsold food is distributed by this organization to those in the Midwest who do not know where their next meal is coming from.
In collaboration with our fellow community members, WISE Twin Cities was able to pack 97 boxes of apples which added up to over 3,800 pounds of food! With all of that broken down, each of our WISE members personally packed 265 meals for our local communities.
